BHUBANESWAR: Former Union minister and president, Green Kalahandi, Mr Bhakta Charan Das , warned Vedanta to leave Kalahandi within a month.

The Supreme Court, in its historic judgment, clearly pointed out that under no circumstances, a company like Vedanta should extract bauxite from Niyamgiri.

If the company does not pay any heed, the state assembly will be gheraoed in in a peaceful manner and demonstrations will be held in front of Parliament. Besides, in January, Niyamgiri hills will be guarded through human-chain.

The locals will intrude into the plant to force the authorities to shut down, if necessity arises, Das warned.

Addressing a mass rally in Lanjigarh yesterday, the Congress leader cautioned against any sort of mining activities at Niyamgiri, as that will result in serious livelihood and environment problems. The scientists and environmentalists have also warned about mining there, he said and added that the judgment of Supreme Court has brought smiles to the locals. Das further advised the employees of the company to quit for their future may be uncertain in the company.
