Yet another Argentinian province has voted to ban open-pit mining - - following those already imposed by the governments of Chubut, Río Negro and Mendoza.
A declaration from communities, beleaguered by Goldcorp's Marlin mine in Guatemala, have issued a declaration specifiying the damage and repression for which the Canadian company is held responsible, and condemning collusion by the authorities.
Landless farmers have blockaded CVRD-Inco's operations in Brazil, as part of nationwide demonstrations against the impact of big companies on the poor.
