A potentially historic case has just opened in Ecuador, filed by Indigenous communities which are claiming damages against Chevron Texaco. Although not directly related to mining, the implications of the action go far beyond petroleum. For, if found guiltiy in Ecuador the company will have to answer to secondary rulings against it in the US as well.
